This Canada Day long weekend I brought home a new member of my family. Her name is Eire and she's a cute little (ex) orphan from Vancouver Island. She's 9 weeks old, and very shy. She loves to play, but slinks away a little bit from being pet. So far, she's been a good companion for Charlie, the already established cat of 1.5 years. They haven't been really cuddly, but they aren't hissing at each other anymore!
So my weekend was spent kitten sitting. I wanted to make sure she was well adjusted, and knew that all the people in the house wanted to give her loves and cuddles. She had a bit of separation anxiety from her foster mom and siblings, which manifested as cute little mews every now and then. Now she's fully happy, and likes to lick my nose at around 7:30 am until I wake up and give her some attention.
Excited with my new 20 year relationship, I spent some time researching cats. My first stop was Wikipedia, and it had so much information that I didn't get time to look anywhere else. There are, however, several excellent books and article cited at the end of the article that would be worth looking at. I am especially recommending the story on the 9,500 year old burial site that was found with a human and cat skeleton.
So, I'm welcoming Eire to the family and warning all readers that there may be an influx of incredibly cute kitten pictures!
